Living in Harmony with Honeybees: A Workshop with the Natural Beekeeping Trust
Where: Lauriston Farm, Goldhanger, Essex CM9 8AH
When: 23 Jun 2012 to 23 Jun 2012 - From 09:30 to 17:00
Event Information
In light of the declining vitality of the honeybee, many common assumptions about bee husbandry need re-examining. The needs of the Bee, largely subordinated to human self-interest over the course of the last one hundred and fifty years, should guide and inspire all our interactions with the bees and the natural world as a whole.
During this workshop we shall examine together in which ways beekeepers and others can contribute positively to the well-being of the honey bee. A truly holistic approach to beekeeping encompasses far more than the choice of hive or specific husbandry regime. To take beekeeping into the future we are all required to change and learn to listen to the bees. Their message is clear: human beings need to find their place in the great web of Nature.
Topics covered will include: swarming, natural brood nests and comb building, nest site preferences, observation as well as possible approaches to self transformation. The programme will also include a tour of a biodynamic farm and opportunities for discussion.
Cost: £55
Please note that lunch will be on a “Bring and Share” basis.
