Ode to an Odious Practice

22 Jul 2015

This still is from a video on removing the wings of queen bees, a practice euphemistically termed ‘queen clipping’.

Here is a response:

Ode to a Queen Clipper

The queen mutilator
Is no vacillator
She reaches for the scissors
And cuts the queenie’s wizzers
It is a dire warning
She doesn’t want a swarming

And how the nurse bees fuss their mother
Upon herself they smell another
The injured wing
The daub of paint
The smell of it
One feels quite faint

The beek says this is bee friendly
But doesn’t see the injury
If bees were ants, they’d lose their wings
They don’t because they need those things
To fly again another day
Don’t harm us so, is what they say
