Ode to an Odious Practice


This still is from a video on removing the wings of queen bees, a practice euphemistically termed ‘queen clipping’.

Here is a response:

Ode to a Queen Clipper

The queen mutilator Is no vacillator She reaches for the scissors And cuts the queenie’s wizzers It is a dire warning She doesn’t want a swarming

And how the nurse bees fuss their mother Upon herself they smell another The injured wing The daub of paint The smell of it One feels quite faint

The beek says this is bee friendly But doesn’t see the injury If bees were ants, they’d lose their wings They don’t because they need those things To fly again another day Don’t harm us so, is what they say
